Academos Terms of Use

Version 1.0, effective 12 October 2026.

These terms are the agreement between you and Academos for using the Academos app on Android and iOS. Please read them before creating an account. If you are under 16, read them together with a parent or guardian. This English text is a translation; if it differs from the Romanian version, the Romanian version prevails.

1. Who we are

Academos is provided by Academos, a Dutch sole proprietorship (eenmanszaak), established at Tegelseweg 107A, 5912 BC Venlo, the Netherlands, registered with the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce (KvK) under no. 42150842, VAT ID NL005535526B24 ("Academos", "we"). You can write to us at any time at [email protected].

Academos is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the Romanian Ministry of Education, the National Centre for Policy and Evaluation in Education or any other public authority.

2. What Academos is

Academos is a study app for the Romanian Evaluarea Națională and Bacalaureat exams. It lets you choose your exam and study plan, work through lessons and exercises, get feedback, track your progress and see your friends.

The available content grows over time. Some subjects or chapters may appear on the map before they have exercises, and the app shows you what you can actually practise.

Academos is a study tool. We do not guarantee a particular grade, passing an exam or complete coverage of the official syllabus. Exercises are written by us in the style of the official papers, are not official papers, and may contain mistakes, which we ask you to report from the app.

3. Who can use Academos

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.

If you are under 18, you need a parent's or guardian's permission for any in-app purchase. By creating an account you confirm that you are at least 13.

Parents and guardians can contact us at any time at [email protected] to find out what data their child's account holds or to ask for it to be deleted.

4. Your account

You can sign in with your email address (you receive a one-time code), with Apple or with Google, depending on which options are available on your device.

Your account is personal. Do not lend it to anyone and do not use someone else's account. You are responsible for keeping access to the email address, or the Apple or Google account, you sign in with secure. If you suspect someone else is using your account, write to us straight away.

You can use the same account on several devices. To keep progress accurate, only one learning activity can be active at a time.

5. Display name and friends

You choose a display name and an avatar from those Academos provides. These are visible to your friends. Do not use your full name, contact details, offensive words, another person's name or someone else's trademarks as your display name. We may change a display name that breaks these rules.

You can send and accept friend invitations. Anyone who receives your invitation code while it is valid can add you as a friend, so share it only with people you know. You can remove a friend at any time in the app. Friends see only your display name, avatar, XP points and weekly activity. Academos has no messaging, comments, public profiles or public user search.

6. What you must not do

When using Academos you must not:

• try to access other users' accounts, data or progress;
• manipulate XP, hearts, subscriptions or other app mechanics through scripts, automation, modifying the app or exploiting bugs;
• copy, bulk-extract, resell or publish Academos exercises and materials;
• decompile or modify the app, except where the law expressly allows it;
• overload or disrupt Academos servers;
• harass other users or use the social features to contact people who do not want to be contacted;
• use Academos for anything unlawful.

If you find a security vulnerability, please write to [email protected] before making it public. We will take no action against anyone who reports a vulnerability in good faith and does not access other people's data.

7. Free plan and subscription

The free plan lets you practise the available lessons with a limited number of hearts per day. The number of hearts and how they refill are shown in the app.

The Academos subscription removes the daily heart limit for the available lessons and may include other benefits described on the purchase screen at the time of purchase. The benefits are those shown before you confirm payment.

The monthly subscription costs 49.99 lei per month including VAT, unless the store shows a different price. The final price, duration, renewal terms and any trial period are those shown by the App Store or Google Play before you confirm the purchase.

7.1 Payment and renewal

Payment is handled only by the App Store (Apple) or Google Play (Google), using the payment method in your store account. We never receive or store your card details.

The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, at the displayed price, until you cancel it. You can cancel at any time in the App Store or Google Play subscription settings, at least 24 hours before renewal. After cancelling, you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for.

7.2 Trial period

If the store offers you a free trial, it automatically converts into a paid monthly subscription when it ends unless you cancel before then. Trial eligibility is decided by Apple or Google.

7.3 Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription

Deleting your Academos account does not cancel your App Store or Google Play subscription. Cancel the subscription in the store first so you are not charged again.

7.4 Refunds and right of withdrawal

Refunds are requested from Apple or Google under that store's rules. Apple: reportaproblem.apple.com. Google Play: from the order history of your Google Play account.

The subscription gives you access to digital content immediately after purchase. Before payment we ask for your express consent for access to start immediately and your acknowledgement that, once access has started, you lose the 14-day right of withdrawal under the Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU and the national law implementing it (in Romania, Government Emergency Ordinance 34/2014), to the extent the law allows. This does not affect your right to ask the store for a refund or your consumer rights regarding the conformity of the service.

7.5 Cross-platform access

A subscription bought on Android or iOS unlocks the same Academos account on both platforms after sign-in.

7.6 Price changes

If we change the subscription price, we will tell you in advance, and the store will ask for your consent where the law or store rules require it. A price increase never applies to a period you have already paid for.

8. Our content and copyright

The app, exercises, explanations, illustrations, characters, trademarks and other Academos materials belong to us or are used under licence. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable right to use the app and materials for personal, non-commercial study, as long as you follow these terms.

Official texts (such as the school curricula and exam papers published by the authorities) are not protected by copyright under Romanian Law 8/1996 and remain free.

9. What you send us

When you send us a report about an exercise or other feedback, you allow us to use it to correct and improve Academos. Do not include personal data about yourself or anyone else in reports.

10. Notifications

If you agree, we may send you notifications about your progress, study streaks and hearts. You can withdraw your agreement at any time in the app or phone settings.

11. Availability and changes to the app

We work to keep Academos running without interruption, but we cannot guarantee it. The app needs an internet connection to practise and save progress.

We may update, add or remove features and content. If a change significantly reduces the benefits of a paid subscription, we will tell you in advance, and you can cancel before the change applies.

12. Suspending and closing accounts

We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, after explaining why, unless the law or the safety of other users requires us to act immediately. If we close your account without a breach on your part, we will explain how to get a refund for the unused part of your subscription.

You can delete your account at any time from Profil > Datele mele in the app or from https://academos.online/stergere-cont. Deletion is permanent.

13. Liability

We are liable to you under the applicable law, including for failing to meet these terms. We are not liable for your exam results, for decisions you make based on the app's content, or for interruptions caused by factors beyond our reasonable control, such as network or app-store outages.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence, for death or personal injury, or the rights consumer protection law gives you.

14. Your personal data

How we use your data is explained in the Privacy Policy.

15. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms, for example when we add features or the law changes. We will tell you in the app at least 30 days before an important change takes effect, unless the law requires us to act sooner. If you do not agree with the new terms, you can stop using Academos and delete your account.

16. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by Dutch law. If you are a consumer living in another EU country, such as Romania, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of your country's law. If you have a complaint, please write to [email protected] first; we reply within 30 days.

As a consumer you may also contact the European Consumer Centre in your country (in Romania, eccromania.ro), which helps for free with disputes with businesses in another EU country. You may bring proceedings against us in the courts of the country where you live or in the Netherlands. We may bring proceedings against you only in the courts of the country where you live.

17. Terms for iOS users

If you download Academos from the App Store:

• these terms are between you and Academos, not Apple, and Apple is not responsible for the app or its content;
• Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app;
• if the app fails to meet an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, which may refund the app's purchase price, and to the extent the law allows Apple has no other warranty obligation;
• Apple is not responsible for claims relating to the app, including product liability, failure to meet legal or regulatory requirements, or consumer protection claims;
• Apple is not responsible for third-party claims that the app infringes their intellectual property;
• you confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo and are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties;
• Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
